The Central Georgia Council, Boy Scouts of America's 2022 Stronger Together Gala Service Award Banquet, honored my mother Karen Dargan Middleton. The banquet was held Thursday, November 10, 2022 at the Tubman Museum in Macon, Georgia.
"The Whitney M. Young, Jr. Service Award is to recognize outstanding services by an adult individual or an organization for demonstrated involvement in the development and implementation of opportunities for youth from rural or low-income urban backgrounds."
There are four recipients of the 2022 Whitney M. Young, Jr. Service Award, along with four exceptional high school students receiving the youth award. The 2022 Elbert K. Fretwell Outstanding Educator Award was honored as well.

Whitney M. Young, Jr. left a virtuous legacy in American History, serving until his death in 1971. A few contributions include becoming State President of the NAACP, Executive Director of the National Urban League, and Advisor of Presidents Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon. President Lyndon B. Johnson chose Mr. Young to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom- the nation's highest civilian award.
